Anja Jelovšek: June

6 November – 20 November 2015
P74 Gallery, Trg Prekomorskih brigad 1, Ljubljana

You are cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition June by Anja Jelovšek on Friday, 6 November 2015 at 19.00 at the P74 Gallery in Ljubljana.

The exhibition June by Anja Jelovšek is a dairy in its most primary and most sophisticated form at once. Throughout the entire month of June, the author documented her heartbeat with an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. The body has changed into a drawing device, biological existence itself has created the drawing in the form of a linear recording. In this way, production moves from active creativity and functioning to passively creating, existing. Principally, we can understand it as a consideration between creating and existing, or in other words, a consideration about their necessary interconnectivity. In some way, art is the transmittance of information as well as the absorption of information with the intent to transmit it further. The question here is whether the subject is a passive or active receiver-transmitter of such information. On the one side, it is the heartbeat of an individual, on the other, among other things, it is activated by certain external information which in turn is conditioned by sensitivity. The interior of a human and its perception, or better, articulation is a proverbial field of art. The EKG drawings articulate that boundlessness through their quantity and not so much through their content, even though they take the form of a diary or book.

The programme of the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and by the Municipality of Ljubljana, Department for Culture.
