Hubert Kostner: Pronto

26 August – 11 September 2011
KAPSULA, Podhod Ajdovščina 1, Ljubljana
Opening View: Friday, 26 August 2011, at 7 p.m.

This is not the first time Hubert Kostner has presented his work to Slovene audiences, but it is, certainly, his Ljubljana premiere. On this occasion, Kostner presents a project created in close collaboration with the composer Manuela Kerer that treats the topic of technological development and the urban environment.
Pronto uses a simple, everyday object for its artistic formation and, through sound intervention, evokes a current of the subconscious in the viewer – memories of communicating with the world, one’s homeland, “all the little things”, telephone cards, and so on. And it is here that the author’s topicality lies: the questioning and even ironic warning about the pace of technological development and the tempo of life.
With unassuming surprise, the project cautions and speaks to viewers even as it sets them before a dilemma: Are they prepared, in the bustle of urban life, to listen to and follow a fragment of art, even if this is an entirely random event?

Hubert Kostner (1971) was born in Brixen in the South Tyrol. He received his degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He has exhibited in many solo and group shows in Bolzano, Vienna, Salzburg, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires, and Kiel. Among other things, he took part in the European Triennial of Small Sculpture in Murska Sobota (2007).

Manuela Kerer (1980) was born in Brixen. She holds degrees in violin and composition, as well as psychology and law. She has received many awards, including the prize Avant-Garde Tyrol 2007, the Festival Avant-Garde Munich award for short opera (2009), the Gustav Mahler Award (2008), and the Walther von der Vogelweide Award (2009); she was also one of the nominees for 100 Young Talents of Europe (2009). Her work as a composer includes orchestral and solo works, chamber music, vocal music, and opera.
