\nToma\u017e Toma\u017ein, In Paradise<\/em>, 2012<\/span><\/p>\n

In this solo exhibition by multimedia artist Toma\u017e Toma\u017ein, he continues to deploy his image as he self-ironically addresses the viewer with questions of identification, identity, and the multiplicity of roles. Here, he carries on with his series of panoramic photography and short videos, and introduces a new crossbreed between an insect and an artist.<\/p>\n

Toma\u017ein further develops his Series 360<\/em>, still revealing new constellations of his own image as well as the image of others. At first glance his work deals merely with the question of his own identity, but that explanation is too simple. Photographs deliberately show the selected spaces in which Toma\u017ein in multiple and acting in different roles. The situations obviously associate stories, but they never enable a linear reading, instead they are fundamentally incomplete and fragmented. With the help of carefully chosen props and clothing, the skipping between personae and stories seems light and playful. Many times the artist puts himself into the role of a person who has mistakenly found himself in a particular place, thus causing a disharmony within the inhabited space which initiates a surprise or even raises a laugh. In this way the panoramic photographs can be understood as a \u201cstoryboard\u201d for the video, a medium which characterises Toma\u017ein\u2019s early creations. Toma\u017ein presents the robotisation of the crossbreeding between the insect and the artist. A simple, seemingly paper robot will have a hard time hiding its defects.
