Josip Sto\u0161i\u0107 was a poet, art historian and visual artist from Zagreb. His body of work influenced many other artists as well as the development of contemporary arts in Croatia. Not only is this is first posthumous exhibition it is also the first exhibition that shows an overview of his works from various periods of his career.<\/p>\n
In his visual art works, he participated in numerous group exhibitions with artists and curators such as Boris Bu\u0107an, Zdravko Ti\u0161ljar, Vladimir Gudac, Ladislav Galeta, Goran Trbuljak, Radoslav Putar, Davor Mati\u010devi\u0107, Richard Demarco. Sto\u0161i\u0107\u2019s multimedia artistic opus includes poetry, texts, minute dramas, films, installations, 3D objects, concepts, graphic works and photography.<\/p>\n
In 1951, at seventeen, he self-published the cult poetry book \u0110erdan<\/em> (Necklace), which was soon after censored and prohibited. Alongside Radovan Iv\u0161i\u0107, Bor Pavlovi\u0107 and Ivan Slamnig he introduced concrete poetry to Croatian arts. He studied art history and psychology and all the way till his retirement worked as an archaeologist and art historian at the Institute of Art History in Zagreb. In this role, he also made many important scientific discoveries.<\/p>\n In the medium of film, he worked with Darko Schneider as a screenwriter on two films in the 1970s and on several animated films with Ladislav Galeta.<\/p>\n During his life, Josip Sto\u0161i\u0107 had only three solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. This is the first presentation of his work in Ljubljana and it brings us a completely unknown segment of a very important artistic career, one mostly unknown to the wider public.<\/p>\n The exhibition Josip Sto\u0161i\u0107<\/em> was organized with the Institute for Contemporary Arts, Zagreb in close collaboration with his family, Karmen Sto\u0161i\u0107 and Irin Sto\u0161i\u0107.<\/p>\n —-<\/p>\n The programme of the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E.
