{"id":2248,"date":"2016-07-24T20:15:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-24T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zavod-parasite.si\/eng\/?p=2248"},"modified":"2016-07-24T20:15:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-24T19:15:00","slug":"tadej-pogacar-dejan-habicht-tanja-lazetic-in-beverly-hills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiv.zavod-parasite.si\/eng\/archives\/2248","title":{"rendered":"Tadej Poga\u010dar, Dejan Habicht, Tanja La\u017eeti\u0107 \u2013 in Beverly Hills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ed Ruscha, Books &amp; Co.<br \/>\nGagosian, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles<br \/>\n28 July \u2013 9 September 2016<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Although here in Slovenia the artist\u2019s book has not yet reached the recognisable and popular status that it deserves \u2013 despite this year\u2019s celebration of half a century since the first edition of the first artist\u2019s book in Slovenia <em>Item: BOOK<\/em> (1966) by Marko Poga\u010dnik \u2013 the presentations of Slovenian authors of artist\u2019s books are ever more reaching international success.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After presentations at prestigious galleries and museums in New York, Munich, Paris (2013\u20132015) the exhibition <em>Books &amp; Co.<\/em> will conclude its journey in Los Angeles, the birth town of Ed Ruscha.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exhibition <em>Books &amp; Co. <\/em>presents about 100 artist\u2019s books which were created in reference to the work of American artist Ed Ruscha and will be shown alongside the survey exhibition <em>Ed Ruscha: Prints and Photographs<\/em>. In the 1960s and 1970s Ed Ruscha put out a series of small photographic conceptual artist\u2019s books that later became exceptionally popular. In recent decades, a number of artist\u2019s books have been published that were created as a tribute, commentary or paraphrase of Ruscha\u2019s works.<\/p>\n<p>Also among those exhibited in the elite gallery GAGOSIAN in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles are three Slovenian artists: <strong>Tadej Poga\u010dar<\/strong> with the artist\u2019s book <em>Various (Small) Pieces of Trash<\/em>, <strong>Dejan Habicht<\/strong> with the artist\u2019s book <em>One Gasoline Station<\/em> and <strong>Tanja La\u017eeti\u0107\u2019s<\/strong> artists books <em>Coloured People in Black and White (Yellow)<\/em> in <em>Nine Swimming Pools behind a Broken Glass<\/em>. They were all issued in 2010 either as self-published works or published by P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute. The book did not arose the interest of the public, even the Library of Congress rejected it because of its \u201cunorthodox form and supposed lack of information\u201d. Over time, the artist\u2019s book has acquired cult status.<\/p>\n<p>&gt; The artist\u2019s book is the visual medium that enabled the OHO movement (Marko Poga\u010dnik and Iztok Geister, later also Matja\u017e Han\u017eek, Franci Zagori\u010dnik, Miljenko Matanovi\u0107, Braco Rotar, Toma\u017e \u0160alamun etc.) to break through the world of visual arts. Into the peaceful world of local modernism they introduced deviation, excess and provocation.<\/p>\n<p>&gt;As the first artist\u2019s book in Slovenia, <em>Item: BOOK<\/em> (1966) by Marko Poga\u010dnik announced several key novelties that were characteristic for the production of OHO\u2019s books in the years 1966\u20131969: they were issued in small circulation, were self-published and hand made.<\/p>\n<p>&gt;Throughout the last decades, Ruscha\u2019s artist\u2019s books have been very influential \u2013 from Bruce Nauman\u2019s <em>Burning Small Fires <\/em>(1968), in which Nauman documented his burning of a copy of Rusha\u2019s <em>Various Small Fires and Milk<\/em>\u00a0 (1964); to Julie Cook\u2019s <em>Some Las Vegas Strip Clubs<\/em>\u00a0(2008); to the book by Mishko Henner <em>Fifty-one US Military Outposts<\/em>\u00a0(2010), which shows aerial photos of US international military bases. Among the early and later works are books of artists of different generations, different cultural contexts who represent the response to Ruscha\u2019s ideas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ed Ruscha, Books &amp; Co.
