P74 Gallery and 4 provocateurs in Rotterdam, Madrid and New York

After participating for the last decade in the most important European contemporary art fairs, at the beginning of this year, P74 Gallery succeeded in a breakthrough: despite a cut-throat selection, it has been accepted into three key international fairs of contemporary art: Art Rotterdam, ARCOmadrid and VOLTA New York.<\/p>\n

The selection of top Slovenian creators and their works \u2013 spanning from avant-garde experiments to critical conceptual interventions \u2013 convinced the international juries. Thus on the fairs in February and March 2018, P74 Gallery will present OM Production<\/strong>, Jo\u017ee Bar\u0161i<\/strong>, Laibach Kunst <\/strong>and Tadej Poga\u010dar & P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Arts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At Art Rotterdam<\/strong> (8\u201311 February 2018), in the film and video section P74 Gallery presents the legendary OM Production with the film Bismillah<\/em>. One of the most excellent representatives of local experimental film production of the 1970s and 1980s, Bismillah<\/em> brings a dramatic explosion of blurry and stretched film images, while the camera spins concentrically like a whirling dervish. Foreign critics described the film language of OM Production as a voyage between trauma and nirvana, between creating a myth and the present.<\/p>\n

Parallel to the Rotterdam presentation, P74 Gallery will also present the first and last Slovenian avant-garde evening length film within its program cycle P74 KINO. The exclusive projection of the film Kumbum<\/em> (1975\u20131987), signed by OM Production and author Floryan Goryan, will take place on Tuesday, 6 February at 19h in the space of P74 Gallery.<\/p>\n

In recent years, ARCOmadrid <\/strong>(21\u201325 February 2018) has experienced a renewal: an exceptional number of visitors, the return of elite galleries, an excellent program of international meetings and symposia, etc. The official opening of this year’s fair will also be attended by the King and Queen of Spain.<\/p>\n

For this year’s fair, P74 Gallery presents the work of Jo\u017ee Bar\u0161i and Laibach Kunst. Directly following the well-attended exhibition at Madrid’s Reina Sofia Museum (in the frame of the exhibition NSK: From <\/em>Kapital<\/em> to Capital. Neue Slowenische Kunst: <\/em>An Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia<\/em>, prepared by Moderna galerija, Ljubljana), P74 Gallery will present to the international art fair audience a wide selection of the works by Laibach Kunst, from the earliest to the most recent. Jo\u017ee Bar\u0161i will be represented by new works, which use language and various philosophical texts as their material, in the last works, above all the texts of Henri Bergson, which expose the arguments of direct experience and intuition for understanding reality.<\/p>\n

Eighty-five international galleries from 32 countries and 48 world-famous cities will participate in the eleventh edition of VOLTA New York<\/strong> from 7 to 11 March 2018 (concurrent with The Armory Show<\/em>). Tadej Poga\u010dar & P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Arts participate in VOLTA New York with the project Na\u0161a \u017eena \/ Our Woman<\/em>, first presented on the retrospective exhibition P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Arts<\/em> at Moderna galerija in 2014. The magazine Na\u0161a \u017eena <\/em> (Our Woman) was launched in 1945 as a gazette for the working woman<\/em>. Published by the Main Committee of the Women\u2019s Antifascist Front of Slovenia, the magazine wished to actively include itself in the currents of societal events and to co-shape the image of the modern Slovenian woman. The selected magazine covers from 1960 to 1970 deal with the dominant ideology of the time, the media representation of women, and the lifestyles and consumerism in Yugoslavia \u2013 at a time when the country\u2019s original version of self-management socialism was experiencing its peak of economic prosperity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
