We are pleased to announce the 5th<\/sup> anniversary edition of the Blind Date Convention Ljubljana 2018, the central even in Slovenia and the region dedicated to the production, promotion and popularization of artists\u2019 books and art publications. The festival will present nearly a dozen local and international producers, artists and independent publishers.<\/p>\n In 2018, the convention will spread to several locations: Milan, Cerkno, Kranj, Maribor and Ljubljana \u2013 with a series of exhibitions, events, workshops, lectures and presentations. The fair for artists\u2019 books and art editions (Blind Date – Art Book Fair Ljubljana 2018) will take place on Thursday, 6 December 2018 from 17h to 22h in P74 Gallery, Trg Prekomorskih brigad 1, 1000 Ljubljana.<\/p>\n List of participants \/ exhibitors: Alongside the fair we will present the first award for the best artist\u2019s book published in 2017 and 2018. The winner will be chosen by an expert committee comprising Matej Sitar (artist \/ Ljubljana), Paula Roush (lecturer, artist \/ London) and Darko \u0160imi\u010di\u0107 (lecturer, curator \/ Zagreb).<\/p>\n On 25 October 2018, Tadej Poga\u010dar gave a public talk<\/a> about the artist\u2019s book in Slovenia and the exhibition Na\u0161a \u017eena \/ Our Woman<\/em> to kick off the convention at Kunstverein Milano in Milan, Italy.<\/p>\n Accompanying exhibitions of the 5th<\/sup> Blind Date Convention Ljubljana 2018:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Brief history of the Convention<\/em><\/p>\n The first Blind Date Convention took place in 2010 as an integral part of the international Ljubljana \u2013 UNESCO World Book Capital with the aim to establish new connections, cooperation and exchange in the local, regional and international milieu and to contribute to the greater popularization of the artist\u2019s book. It was followed by the first comprehensive exhibition of artist\u2019s books in Slovenia, entitled The Artist\u2019s Book in Slovenia, 1966\u20132010<\/em>, in Kresija Gallery, and the presentation of the distributor MOTTO, which offers over 3,000 titles of independent art publications and fanzines in numerous bookshops across Europe. The second edition (2011) dedicated greater emphasis to young artists and publishers. We presented the publishing house Lubok Verlag from Leipzig, as well as two exhibitions: one of newly published artists\u2019 books, and the other of new acquisitions in the Artist\u2019s Book Collection of P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute. The shows were followed by talks, screenings and lectures. The third edition (2014) was held for the first time in several venues: Gallery P74, KAPSULA Gallery and the Kino \u0160i\u0161ka Centre for Urban Culture in Ljubljana. The guest publisher was the independent Swiss label KODOJI press. The accompanying program offered educational workshops, the latest artists\u2019 books, talks and guided tours of the exhibitions. The fourth edition (2016) hosted dozens of domestic and international publishers, artists and self-publishers. The central exhibition of the Blind Date Convention was dedicated to the 50th<\/sup> anniversary of the publication of the first Slovenian artist\u2019s book by Marko Poga\u010dnik and ZINZIN<\/em>, the first overview exhibition of the current zine production in Slovenia.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n About P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute<\/em><\/p>\n P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute has been systematically promoting the artist\u2019s book as an artistic medium for the last decade and a half. In 2004, we began to support the new production of artists\u2019 books with a public call; in 2005, we began the Artist\u2019s Book Collection of P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute. In 2007, we conceived the Seminar on the Artist\u2019s Book with lectures, exhibitions and workshops. Since 2008, we have been participating regularly in international artist\u2019s book fairs in which we popularize and distribute the works of local artists among the worldwide public. Our presence at these fairs opened up the possibility for artists\u2019 books to be purchased for prestigious public and private collections, among them, the publications collection of MoMA New York, the publications collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; as well as collections of the International Center of Photography, New York; CNAE, Paris; Georges Pompidou Centre; Museum of Modern Arts Waserburg; University of South End, London, etc. One of the highlights in the field of international activity is undoubtedly represented by the presentation of local authors of artists\u2019 books on the exhibition Ed Ruscha, Books & Co.<\/em> in Gagosian Gallery, New York (2013) and in M\u00fcnchen, Paris and Los Angeles (2013\u20132015).<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n Organization: P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E.
