It is our great pleasure to announce the release of the book P74 TWENTY YEARS<\/strong>, which marks two decades of the P74 Gallery<\/strong>. There are not many books in our surroundings that address innovative work in the field of contemporary culture and the arts, which is why they are so much more valuable. The P74 Gallery was founded in 1997 by artist Tadej Poga\u010dar as an artist-run space<\/em>. It is one of the most propulsive and important Slovenian independent gallery centres, working in the fields of exhibition activities, education, publishing and music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

P74 TWENTY YEARS is a kind of a reader. It acquaints us with the context of the cultural and political activities of the gallery and its programmatic orientation. In terms of content, it highlights the topics of public space, self-organization, degrowth, identity politics, parallel economies, energy and housing alternatives, feminism, gender, history revision, local cartography, urbanism. The book provides an archive of exhibitions and accompanying events, round tables, talks, presentations, lectures, and a chronology of concert performances that have been performed as part of the Sound Explicit<\/strong> experimental music cycle since its beginning in 2003.<\/p>\n

P74 Gallery in Ljubljana presented the first exhibitions of the works of outstanding neo-avant-garde artists Sanja Ivekovi\u0107<\/strong>, Drago Dellabernardina<\/strong>, Goran Trbuljak<\/strong>, Dalibor Martinis<\/strong>, Balint Szombathy<\/strong>, Group 143<\/strong>, and numerous prominent international authors, such as Hito Steyerl<\/strong>, Temporary Services<\/strong>, Antoni Muntadas<\/strong>, Yona Friedman<\/strong>, Jenny Perlin<\/strong>, Paula Roush<\/strong>, Michael Ilg<\/strong>, Peter Walsh<\/strong>, Pablo Helguera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

P74 Gallery has played a key role in popularizing the Artist Book: through exhibitions, public tenders, the Artist Book Seminar, and through participation in international fairs. In 2003, the gallery created the international P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute Artist Book Collection<\/em>, which today encompasses more than 550 units. It has managed to place Artist Books of domestic authors in many of the world\u2019s most important collections, such as MoMA, New York<\/strong>; Metropolitan Museum, New York<\/strong>; International Centre of Photography, New York<\/strong>; cneai=, Paris<\/strong>; Weserburg Museum for Modern Art, Bremen<\/strong>; South End University Collection, London<\/strong>; SAIC, Chicago<\/strong>, etc.<\/p>\n

The statistics are inexorable: more than 580 exhibitions and accompanying events, 60 concerts, participation in 54 international art and Artist Book fairs, collaboration with 900 artists, curators and lecturers. A sincere thank you to all of you.<\/p>\n

Slovenian-English edition P74 TWENTY YEARS<\/strong> is made in black and white and printed in 300 mm x 230 mm format, in semi-hardcover binding, on 272 pages. It was designed and edited by Tadej Poga\u010dar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It brings twenty-seven authorial essays by Barbara Bor\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, Mojca Grmek<\/strong>, Dejan Habicht<\/strong>, Ur\u0161ka Jurman<\/strong>, Tadej Poga\u010dar<\/strong>, Suzana Milevska<\/strong>, Nina Skumavc<\/strong>, Barbara Sterle Vurnik<\/strong>, Darko \u0160imi\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>, Mi\u0161ko \u0160uvakovi\u0107<\/strong>, dealing with the projects of Jo\u017ee Bar\u0161i<\/strong>, Josef Dabernig<\/strong>, Drago Dellabernardina<\/strong>, Domenec<\/strong>, Dejan Habicht<\/strong>, Laibach Kunst<\/strong>, Polonca Lov\u0161in<\/strong>, Dalibor Martinis<\/strong>, Beatriz Santiago Munoz<\/strong>, OM Production<\/strong>, Dan and Lia Perjovschi<\/strong>, Tadej Poga\u010dar & P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Collaborative, research and study projects include Ready 2 Change<\/em> (2004)<\/strong>, Renaming Machine <\/em>(2008 \u2013 2011)<\/strong>, Hidden Histories of the<\/em> OHO Group <\/em>(2009)<\/strong>, Protest <\/em>(2013)<\/strong>, Second Explosion \u2013 The \u201890s<\/em> (2014 \u2013 2017)<\/strong>, Victorious Four<\/em> (2018)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nata\u0161a Velikonja<\/strong> and Jana Renee Willcoxen<\/strong> contributed the English translations, while Tadej Turn\u0161ek <\/strong>provided the Slovenian translations. The proofreading in Slovenian was done by Jelka Jamnik<\/strong>. The book was graphically designed by Ajdin Ba\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> and printed by CICERO Company Ljubljana.<\/p>\n

The book is published by the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute<\/strong> with the financial support of Kontakt Association, Vienna<\/strong>; Trust for Mutual Understanding, New York<\/strong>; Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia<\/strong> and Department of Culture of the City of Ljubljana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
