Dejan Habicht\u2019s 200 Motels, Revolution, Retrospectives and Dark Star<\/em> is an attempt at a working retrospective of this multifaceted artist. Dejan Habicht is a photographer, conceptual artist, and writer. He studied philosophy and ethnology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana (1978\u20131984) and received his diploma in ethnology (1984). From 1987 to 2000 he worked as a freelance photographer; since 2002 he has been a photographer at the Moderna galerija in Ljubljana. His writings and photographs have been published, among other places, in the magazines Ambient<\/em>\/Jana<\/em>, Ars vivendi<\/em>, Fotografija<\/em>, Hi\u0161e<\/em>, Oris<\/em> (Zagreb), Revolver<\/em> (Frankfurt am Main), and Tribuna<\/em>.
\nHabicht places the exhibition within references to films that were important to him in his youth: Frank Zappa\u2019s 200 Motels<\/em> (1971), revolution as observed by Sergio Leone in Gi\u00f9 la testa<\/em> (Duck, You Sucker<\/em>, 1971), the retrospective view \u2013 not as remembering but as literally looking back \u2013 such as we see in Wim Wenders\u2019s Lisbon Story<\/em> (1994) and in John Carpenter and Dan O\u2019Bannon\u2019s Dark Star<\/em> (1974). The main body of works in the show present the realization of concepts that have remained as sediment in the memory (the oldest is from 1975). The works vary from the initial grasp of the alienation effect, analyses of the subversive nature of formal reading, and delight in language play, through references to models from art and popular culture, to the pure expression of a worldview. In the show, Habicht presents around sixty works: videos, photographs, books, puzzles, drawings, prints, and ready-mades.<\/p>\n
\nHe is also very active in the medium of the artist book, in which he has published a number of works in recent years, including 12 Boring Poems<\/em>, One Gasoline Station<\/em>, Please<\/em>, American Bar<\/em>, Woodcuts<\/em>, and Final Bus Stops<\/em>. He has taken part in many important international exhibitions and events both at home and abroad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
